Access control lists, that is. The Calendar team is excited to announce support for ACLs in the Calendar data API. Now you can control who can view and edit your calendars programmatically!
The sharing permissions of a calendar are managed by an access control list (ACL), which is now available as a read-write feed. The URL for this new feed can be found in the <link rel="http//schemas.google.com/acl/2007#accessControlList"> element of an existing calendar feed, and typically has the form: http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/<userId>/acl/full. You can check out example feeds and more in the Developer's Guide.
Each entry in the ACL feed is a rule that associates a scope with a role. The scope identifies a set of individuals to whom the rule applies, such as a user, a domain, or everyone using Google Calendar. The roles define access levels such as read-only, free/busy only, editor, or owner. You can find the complete list of available scopes and roles in the Google Calendar data API Reference Guide.
So far we've updated the Java client library to include ACL support, and updates to the other libraries are coming as well.
Many people in the community have been asking for access control in the Calendar API group, so we hope that you'll try it out, and let us know what you think.
See you in the groups,
Lane LiaBraaten, The Google data APIs Team
