Google Data APIs Java Client Eclipse Plug-in : Create projects in seconds

Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:44 AM

I'm pleased to announce the release of an Eclipse plug-in for new developers using the Java Client Library for Google Data APIs.

This plug-in aims to minimize the overhead involved in setting up external Java dependencies and in getting started with a new API released in Java client library. The plug-in lets you download the external dependencies automatically. It also creates boiler plate code to interact with the API that you are interested in. This provides an easy way for all the newbies to quickly start developing code using many of the Google Data APIs.

Curious how to use this plug-in? What are you waiting for? Checkout the project page and the wikis (especially the usage wiki ).

Note: This is an open source project and contributions are welcome.

Sweet. I have been trying to learn how to use Google's Java APIs to help manage our student mail addresses.

Excellent starting point.

And what about searching google directly, I mean, your search engine to retrieve pages informing the terms to be researched?

I'd like to know, also, if it is possible to use google APIs to search at the google directory service.

Thanks!

This plugin is for working with Google Data APIs from within Java. Google Data APIs provide access to search photos on Picasa Web Albums, videos on YouTube, items on Google Base, code via code search and much more, but do not provide access to core web search.

More information about Google Data APIs:
http://code.google.com/apis/gdata/

For other Google APIs:
http://code.google.com/more

You may wish to look at the AJAX Search API (which has a RESTful interface too) for more information on web search.

Cheers,
-Ryan

Thanks Ryan, it was very helpful. I'm still looking for this kind of API, but I've spent a couple days, so I'm considering a lot just parse the web pages by myself, instead of using some API from Google.

Any help on that please let me know.

Thanks again.

@prosellers

Yes, this will allow you to easily setup a Java project which uses the YouTube API from the command-line. Feel free to post your questions over in the YouTube API discussion forum: http://groups.google.com/group/youtube-api
